The public outcry about the 1988 fires in Yellowstone National Park and adjacent natural forests, coupled with concern among natural resource managers, convinced the Secretaries of the Departments of Interior and Agriculture to establish the Fire Management Policy Review Team in the later part of September 1988. This team, composed of representatives from the U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, was charged with reviewing current policies governing national park and wilderness fire management in these federal agencies and recommending any changes needed to correct problems encountered during the 1988 fire season.© by the Northwest Scientific Association.
