New words are continually being introduced into our language as a result of developing technologies. This glossary offers definitions of some of the terms associated with the new technology covered in this issue-- the global positioning system (GPS). However, GPS is most often used in conjunction with other tools-- especially remote sensing and geographic information systems-- to accomplish a wide range of natural resource management tasks. Therefore, related terms from such associated fields are also included.© Society of American Foresters, Bethesda, MD. Abstract reproduced by permission.
