A site-specific fire behavior fuel modeling system being developed by the Fire behavior Research Work Unit at the Northern Forest Fire Laboratory, combines simplified field measurement techniques with computer-assisted fuel model development and testing. The fuel models will be usable in either the TI-59 calculator with a fire behavior CROM or in the interactive computer program BEHAVE. Both produce fire behavior assessments for site-specific fire management problems. Technical development of the fuel modeling program is expected to be completed in 1982, with field application following as soon as administratively feasible.
