Description

A comprehensive investigation of Canadian boreal forest fires was conducted using NOAA-AVHRR imagery. Alogorithms were developed to (1) detect active forest fires, (2) map burned areas on daily and annual basis, and (3) estimate fire emissions based on burned area and Canadian Forest Service fuel consumption models. The algorithms lay the foundation for an operational fire emissions calculator.
