New Jersey's pinelands have a unique fire history and represent the largest fire-adapted ecosystem in the North Atlantic. For this webinar, Dr. Inga La Puma highlighted a 90-year spatial database of large fires in the pinelands derived from the New Jersey Forest Fire Service's paper map archives. She will review fire frequency and ignition maps and examine seasonality and high fire years. Additionally, she will discuss her landscape level research investigating how reduced fire frequency near altered land may be changing the trajectory of forest succession in the region.
