Jason Nez, a Fire Archaeologist on the 2015 Rock Fire (Kaibab National Forest), will discuss how cultural resources can be protected during managed wildfires. The Kaibab National Forest has numerous cultural resources that are vulnerable to fire, but have still been able to allow fire to return to thousands of acres across the forest. Balancing land management and cultural resource goals requires careful planning and team work during the fire. Educating Firefighters on the line is crucial to success and the knowledge they gain will be something they carry through their careers.
