This conference will provide 1) high profile technology transfer for JFSP supported research, 2) highlight JFSP programs and projects, 3) opporfunities for special sessions on the JFSP programand JFSP supported projects, 4) ffSP supported student participation in all aspects of the Fire Congress, and 5) highlight the contributions of JFSP toward the conference theme of 'Advancing Ecology in Fire Management.' The recent AFE Fire Congresses have featured over 600 oral presentations and up to 200 posters during the one week events. Due to the close proximity with Mexico, we are anticipating a large number of fire ecologists from Mexico and other countries participating and attending. We have a number of Mexican Fire Ecologists on the Steering and Program Committees. It is the plan of the Program Committee to have the opening Plenary Speakers from Mexico or Europe, but these individuals have not been confirmed at this time. We already have confirmation that the Heads of the two major land management agencies in Texas that deal with fire (Texas A&M University Forest Service and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department) will also address the Fire Congress participants during the plenary sessions.
