The goal of the Pacific Coast Fire Conference: Changing Fire Regimes, Goals, and Ecosystems is to provide a forum for participants to learn about scientific developments, discover new technologies, exchange ideas, develop collaboration, and explore fire ecology and management issues and solutions for ecosystems in Western North America. Planning is already underway for the conference, scheduled for December 1-4, 2008 in San Diego, California. The conference will include two plenary and four concurrent sessions of research and management papers, a poster session, four field trips, the Association for Fire Ecology banquet, and exhibits that showcase new products, technolgoy, and tools. Special sessions will focus on topics such as wildland fuel and fire management, burned area emergency response, fire behavior, fire history, fire ecology, fire regimes, fire in the context of ecological restoration, and post-fire management. Over two hundred total presentations are anticipated for this conference. The conference is sponsered by the Association for Fire Ecology, and the Colifornia Association for Fire Ecology, in partnership with Humboldt State University Extension (HSU). Co-sponsership is sought from the Joint Fire Science Program.
