The goal of 'A Review of Available Economic and Financial Biomass Information and Tools for Federal Land Managers in the West' is to provide a synthesis of information products available to federal land managers to enhance their ability to understand and deal with the economic and financial aspects of woody biomass removal as a component of fire hazard reduction treatments. The cooperators in this project use their extensive experience related to timber and woody biomass utilization in the west, and worked closely with federal land managers regarding timber flow, milling capacity, treatment and logging costs, transportation costs, wood use, and biomass availability and utilization, to gather and synthesize information products that can answer questions about the economic and financial effects of biomass removal. This information is meant to fill the gaps between existing information and tools and managers' awareness of and ability to access and use these tools and information. Included in this work is extensive literature related to financial and economic aspects of biomass volume estimation, removal and utilization, information describing the location and characteristics of biomass-utilizing facilities in several western states, the types, tree sizes, and volumes of wood fiber these facilities purchase, and the value of wood fiber delivered to these facilities.
