This position assists foresters in marking and estimating timber stumpage on sale areas using dendrology and mensuration skills; surveying timber sales and other projects; painting timber sale boundaries and block lines; assisting in laying-out timber haul roads and skid trails; completing 20 year exams, 4 year exams and tree planting surveys; re-vegetating areas for erosion control and wildlife benefits using lime, fertilizer and mix of legumes and grasses; and assisting in the installation of tree shelters. Duties also include plating trees/acorns in new clearcuts to improve species composition; applying herbicides; assisting in the installation and removal of deer fencing; assisting in the prevention, suppression and mop-up of wildfires; and assisting in identifying forest insect and disease problems encountered during routine work on State Forest Lands.
