Alaska Reference Database
The Alaska Reference Database originated as the standalone Alaska Fire Effects Reference Database, a ProCite reference database maintained by former BLM-Alaska Fire Service Fire Ecologist Randi Jandt. It was expanded under a Joint Fire Science Program grant for the FIREHouse project (The Northwest and Alaska Fire Research Clearinghouse). It is now maintained by the Alaska Fire Science Consortium and FRAMES, and is hosted through the FRAMES Resource Catalog. The database provides a listing of fire research publications relevant to Alaska and a venue for sharing unpublished agency reports and works in progress that are not normally found in the published literature.
Elevated CO2 increases root growth and fine (diam. £2 mm) root growth across a range of species and experimental conditions. However, there is no clear evidence that elevated CO2 changes the proportion of C allocated to root biomass, measured as either...

We determined the abundance and diversity of vascular plants in seven types of disturbance in mixed-wood boreal forest. Disturbance treatments included wildfire, natural regeneration after harvest and several methods of silvicultural site preparation....
From the text ... 'It should be clear to everyone concerned that weather conditions and the availability of fuel largely control the behavior of fires. Since projections of actual fire growth depend on weather forecasts, and the weather beyond...
Prescribed burning has, in the past decade, become the focus of debate among policy makers, federal and private land managers, and the public. To manage fire effectively, the USDA Forest Service has formally recognized the need for economic analysis....
The USDA Forest Service stores fire occurrence data in a relational data base for planning, analysis, and other purposes. Weather observations are stored in the same data base for all five federal land management agencies and some state wildland...
We reviewed 54 scientific articles about bobcat (Lynx rufus) food habits to determine the occurrence of quail, birds, and mesopredators including red (Vulpes vulpes) and gray fox (Urocyon cinereoargenteus), raccoon (Procyon lotor), skunk (Mephitis spp...
Biologists generally assume that habitat loss, fragmentation, and conversion resulting from changes in landuse are primarily responsible for the nearly rangewide declines in northern bobwhite (Colinus virginianus) abundance noted since at least 1990....
From the Summary ... 'The bobwhite is known to eat 129 different kinds of weed seeds.A single bird was found to eat as many as 12,000, 18,000 and 30,000 seeds of one kind of weed in a day. They eat 15 grams, or half an ounce, of weed seed daily...
