Future long-term (ca. 100 year) trends in fire frequency and burn patterns were investigated in the subalpine plateau of Yellowstone National Park, USA, using EMBYR, a probabilistic, spatially-explicit fire simulation model. The central subalpine...
Alaska Reference Database
The Alaska Reference Database originated as the standalone Alaska Fire Effects Reference Database, a ProCite reference database maintained by former BLM-Alaska Fire Service Fire Ecologist Randi Jandt. It was expanded under a Joint Fire Science Program grant for the FIREHouse project (The Northwest and Alaska Fire Research Clearinghouse). It is now maintained by the Alaska Fire Science Consortium and FRAMES, and is hosted through the FRAMES Resource Catalog. The database provides a listing of fire research publications relevant to Alaska and a venue for sharing unpublished agency reports and works in progress that are not normally found in the published literature.
The 1988 Yellowstone fires provided a unique opportunity to examine how the geometry of fire created patches affects plant reestablishment. We initiated studies in 1990 in small (1 ha), moderate (74-200 ha), and large (480-3968 ha) crown-fire patches...
The effect of fire and habitat heterogeneity on winter foraging by ungulates was studied in northern Yellowstone National Park (YNP). Grazing was monitored at 15 study sites for 14 wks during the winters of 1991 and 1992. The location and intensity of...
Objectives of this study were to test existing prediction equations for duff depth reduction, percentage of duff consumed, and mineral soil exposure to determine the limits of their applicability, and to develop if possible broadly based prediction...
Crown fires create broad-scale patterns in vegetation by producing a patch mosaic of stand age classes, but the spread and behavior of crown fires also may be constrained by spatial patterns in terrain and fuels across the landscape. In this review, we...
The potential need for national-level comparisons of greenhouse gas emissions, and the desirability of understanding terrestrial sources and sinks of carbon, has prompted interest in quantifying national forest carbon budgets. In this study, we link a...
