From the text (p.1) ... 'The Forest Service of the Department of the Interior has long recognized forest protection as one of the important problems facing the people of this country. Scientific methods of increasing forest wealth can avail little...
Alaska Reference Database
The Alaska Reference Database originated as the standalone Alaska Fire Effects Reference Database, a ProCite reference database maintained by former BLM-Alaska Fire Service Fire Ecologist Randi Jandt. It was expanded under a Joint Fire Science Program grant for the FIREHouse project (The Northwest and Alaska Fire Research Clearinghouse). It is now maintained by the Alaska Fire Science Consortium and FRAMES, and is hosted through the FRAMES Resource Catalog. The database provides a listing of fire research publications relevant to Alaska and a venue for sharing unpublished agency reports and works in progress that are not normally found in the published literature.
On rich productive mixedwood cutover sites in western Newfoundland, hardwood reproduction competes strongly with regenerating softwood seedlings, chiefly of balsam fir. An experiment was established to compare several chemical methods and one...
From the text:'In accordance with the mandate of the Congress, this study has placed particular emphasis on the need for additional air operational facilities to prevent or minimize loss of life and property resulting from forest or grass fires...
'We have developed a prototype National Fire Occurrence Data Library (NF0DL) to help fire managers interact with resource managers in meeting the new planning requirements of the Resources Planning Act and the National Forest Management Act. The...
Fuel complexes resulting from power-saw spacing in young coastal Douglas-fir and interior lodgepole pine stands were quantitatively assessed for loading and duration of hazard. Fuel appraisal data were combined with fire weather regimes to derive fire...

Southwestern canyon woodlands, for purposes of this paper, are vegetation types along canyon bottoms for mostly third and fourth order drainages whose streams may be permanent or intermittent. These include habitat types within blue spruce, white fir,...
Presents simplified equations for solving the fire containment problem. Equations can be used on a programmable pocket calculator to derive the burned area, given forward rate of spread, initial area, fire shape length/width ratio, and control-line...
Alaskan land and resource managers are moving from a policy of fire control to one of fire management. To use fire as a tool to reach resource management objectives, managers need information on fire effects and the role of fire in northern environment...
This paper surveys available information on fire regimes and methodology employed in elucidating these regimes during the suppression, presuppression and post-glacial periods, principally in the boreal and Great Lakes-St. Lawrence forest regions of...
