Alaska Reference Database
The Alaska Reference Database originated as the standalone Alaska Fire Effects Reference Database, a ProCite reference database maintained by former BLM-Alaska Fire Service Fire Ecologist Randi Jandt. It was expanded under a Joint Fire Science Program grant for the FIREHouse project (The Northwest and Alaska Fire Research Clearinghouse). It is now maintained by the Alaska Fire Science Consortium and FRAMES, and is hosted through the FRAMES Resource Catalog. The database provides a listing of fire research publications relevant to Alaska and a venue for sharing unpublished agency reports and works in progress that are not normally found in the published literature.
From the Introduction: 'It is only recently, however, that prescribed burning has been introduced in Manitoba and Saskatchewan and, consequently, relatively few peple in these provinces are experienced in its use. It is for this reason that this...
From the text:'This article reports a laboratory attempt to measure the combined effects of sun and wind on surface temperature, and to test the form that a predictive equation should take. The general approach was suggested by some previous...
From the summary:'Systems developed to sample and analyze gases from experimental fires have provided data which appears to be consistent with the general pattern of behavior of the fires and with other data collected. The capability of the system...
From the Summary:'Some of the characteristics of areal rainfall have been examined for the purposes of assessing the extent to which a point observation is representative of whether or not an area has received rain. Only summer rainfall data were...
From the text:'This paper compares INFROMAP with other information assembly and display systems, describes the concept and basic charcteristics of the system, explains how it may be used in fire planning and fire control, and considers the outlook...
From the summary ... 'This paper describes a simple model which can be used to investigate the transport of water vapour by thermal plumes in the atmosphere. For an approximate treatment of these plumes, it is assumed (as in a previous paper) that...
From the summary ... ' In summary, the results of these large scale fire tests, conducted under marginal burning conditions, were negative; but, paradoxically, I find this very heartening, for we can now be much more confident in our predictions...
A typical gas chromatogram of the volatile pyrolysis products (molecular weights less than 150) of untreated a-cellulose contains 39 peaks, however, mass spectral data indicate that at least 59 compounds are present. Since the initial pyrolysis...
A simple device for indicating maximum windspeed during a time interval is described. Use of a unijunction transistor, for voltage sensing, results in a stable comparison circuit and also reduces overall component requirements. Measurement is presented...
