The 2019 McKinley wildfire burned north of Wasilla during the driest summer on record in Southcentral Alaska. Alaska EPSCoR researchers with the University of Alaska Anchorage, Institute for Social and Economic Research (ISER) teamed up with the Alaska Fire Science Consortium (AFSC) to create an infographic on the lessons learned from the McKinley fire with the goal of helping Alaskans to better prepare for future wildfires. This work is based on interviews and conversations with McKinley fire-area residents and wildfire agency staff throughout the state of Alaska, and includes valuable insights into preparedness, evacuation, and recovery.
