The perpetuation of fire-dependent forests requires an understanding of fire ecology and fire behavior not only by scientists and managers, but also by the public (U.S. Department of Interior and U.S. Department of Agriculture, 1995). FireWorks is a plastic trunk that contains educational materials and lessons designed to increase public understanding of fire ecology, fire behavior, and people's influences on wildland fire. It forms the basis of a U.S. Forest Service (Northern Region office) educational program that integrates classroom learning, field experience, and potential research projects.
