Welcome to the Southern Fire Portal
The Southern Fire Portal (SFP) provides information about fire science and technology relevant to the southern United States. This 13 state area includes Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia, as well as Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. Our goal is to provide "one-stop shopping" for resource managers, decision makers, scientists, students, and communities who want access to the results of efforts to understand and manage fire and fuels on lands in the southern United States. One of the Southern Fire Portal's objectives is to improve fire science organization and accessibility by integrating and expanding two comprehensive and complementary sources of fire information: the Fire Research and Management Exchange System (FRAMES), and the Tall Timbers Research Station E.V. Komarek Fire Ecology Database and Thesaurus. The combination of these powerful sources of information is synergistic, adding tremendous user-value to each source. The SFP is much more than a website; it is the gateway for ongoing information and technology transfer between the fire management and research communities, and their publics.

The Tall Timbers Research Station is a widely regarded information resource for fire ecology research in the southeastern US. Tall Timbers maintains the E.V. Komarek Fire Ecology Database, which provides access to over 26,000 bibliographic citations.
The Encyclopedia of Southern Fire Science (ESFS) contains over 600 pages of peer-reviewed syntheses of scientific knowledge about fire science in the southern US.
The Southern Fire Exchange (SFE) is a regional program for fire science delivery across the southeastern US, created with funding from the Joint Fire Science Program. CAFMS The Consortium of Appalachian Fire Managers and Scientists facilitates communication between fire managers and scientists throughout the Appalachian region (stretching from Pennsylvania to Alabama). CAFMS funding has been provided by the Joint Fire Science Program.
