LCP Critique

LCP Critique is a small stand-alone program that allows users to import an LCP file and generate summary information that can be used to critique the data. It is identical to the LCP Critique available for analyses in the Wildland Fire Decision Support System (WFDSS), but is provided here for direct use with LCP files. Click here for more details and to download the program.

Link to ArcFuels website

ArcFuels is a library of ArcGIS macros developed to streamline fire behavior modeling and spatial analyses for fuel treatment planning. The macros link: 1) key wildfire behavior models; 2) fuels and vegetation data (e.g. Landfire, FVS databases); 3) MS Office, and 4) ArcGIS.

Fuels
Combustible material. (National Wildfire Coordinating Group/Fire Research And Management Exchange System)

The Fuel subject category contains resources related to the study of fuels, including, but not limited to, fuel categories, fuel properties, fuel moisture, plant flammability, fuel availability, and fuel consumption.

Fuel Models Spreadsheet (CompareModelsFour.xls file; 114 KB)
Combined Fuel Model Spreadsheet and Help File (.zip file; 18 MB)

About the Spreadsheet: The spreadsheet NewFuelModelsFour.xls is provided so that you can make quick, simple comparisons of the new fuel models with each other and with the original 13 fuel models. Guidance for using the spreadsheet is included in the helpfile, described below.

About the Help File: The helpfile describes characteristics of the new fuel model set, its development, and its relationship to the original set of 13 fire behavior fuel models. To assist with transition to using the new fuel models, a fuel model selection guide, fuel model crosswalk, and set of fuel model photos are provided. This document also contains comprehensive fire behavior output charts to facilitate comparison of the new fuel models with the original 13. A calculation aid for comparing fuel models under a variety of environmental conditions is included.

The material presented is reinforced with a workshop section, which includes answers to frequently asked questions, a quiz, and practical exercises. This document serves as a self-study aid for learning to use the new set of fuel models, or can be used as part of a training course wherever a discussion of standard fuel models is relevant.

About the GTR: This report describes a new set of standard fire behavior fuel models for use with Rothermel's surface fire spread model and the relationship of the new set to the original set of 13 fire behavior fuel models. To assist with transition to using the new fuel models, a fuel model selection guide, fuel model crosswalk, and set of fuel model photos are provided.
